Program at SMU during ALA Midwinter 2012 in Dallas, Texas

A program for RBMS members and the extended special collections, archives, and library community is scheduled for Friday, January 20, 2012 when ALA Midwinter 2012 will be in Dallas, Texas. There will be no charge for the program, which will be held at Southern Methodist University (SMU) with co-hosting by three special collections on campus: Bridwell Library Special Collections, Bywaters Special Collections of the Hamon Arts Library, and DeGolyer Library.

The 52nd Annual RBMS Preconference http://www.rbms.info/conferences/preconferences/2011/index.shtml is taking place in Baton Rouge, an hour and half away from New Orleans, and ends at noon on Friday, June 24.

ACRL/RBMS Guidelines for Borrowing and Lending Special Collections Materials draft

The RBMS Task Force for the Guidelines for Borrowing and Lending Special Collections Materials solicits final comments on the draft guidelines, ACRL/RBMS Guidelines for Interlibrary and Exhibition Loan of Special Collections Materials [pdf].

Chella Vaidyanathan joined the Sheridan Libraries at Johns Hopkins University as the Librarian for History and Curator of 19th-21st Century Books and Manuscripts.

Karen Beck recently became Manager, Historical and Special Collections, at the Harvard Law Library.

Julie Grob has recently been promoted to Coordinator of Digital Services & Instruction at the University of Houston Libraries.

Council on Library and Information Resources announces latest set of Cataloging Hidden Special Collections and Archives grants

The following seventeen projects were selected from among 92 full proposals submitted in 2010. Award recipients will create web-accessible records according to standards that will enable the federation of their local cataloging entries into larger groups of related records, enabling the broadest possible exposure to the scholarly community.
