We are seeking discussion topics that complement the conference theme. Please feel free to propose ideas and/or a potential moderator (or moderators). Have a topic, but no moderator in mind? We can help you find one. Better yet, consider jumping in and volunteering to help us to finalize the program.

CALL FOR TALKS! (Due November 27)

We are seeking submissions that address the conference theme for any of the
following content types:
* Scholarly, research papers about materials, OR high-level work about libraries
* Case studies: studies of how things are done well at a library
* Reports, information exchange about collections and/or libraries.

Submissions may also vary in length:

Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies launches essay contest

The Fellowship of American Bibliophilic Societies announces:

American Book Collectors & Collecting from 1940 to the Present

A $1000 award for an original essay of 3000 to 4000 words by a writer aged 30 years or younger on any aspect of book or manuscript collecting by private collectors or institutions in the United States from 1940 to the present.

The essay should be based on original source materials and documented by appropriate endnotes and citations.

The Katharine Kyes Leab & Daniel J. Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Awards

I am pleased to announce that submission for the 2012 Katharine Kyes Leab & Daniel J. Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Awards are being accepted until Monday October 15, 2012. The awards are given annually in recognition of excellence in the publication of catalogs and brochures that accompany exhibitions of library and archival materials, as well as for electronic exhibitions of such materials. The prizes are administered and awarded by the ALA/ACRL/RBMS Exhibition Awards Committee.

In partnership with the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) of ACRL is offering scholarships to subsidize first-time preconference attendance by professional librarians and qualified paraprofessionals and students.

2012 RBMS Preconference: Futures! Registration Now Open

The 2012 RBMS Preconference will explore a multiplicity of futures for the rare book, manuscript, and special collections community. How are special collections materials being discovered and used today? How will they be discovered and used tomorrow? Who will our users be and what will they need? What forms will special collections materials take? Join us to learn, discuss, share, and contemplate because the future is now.
