Get Involved with RBMS
How can I become more involved in RBMS?
The Rare Book and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) welcomes members at all career levels to become more involved in its activities. Some ways to get more involved:
- Sit in on RBMS committee meetings and discussion groups at the Annual and Midwinter ALA conferences. Committee membership is not required to attend most meetings! If you decide that you would like to volunteer for a committee, you can fill out a committee service interest form. Committee internships are also available. If you are interested in an internship, please contact the chair of the committee you're interested in.
- The RBMS Preconference is a great place to meet other members of RBMS and learn about the activities of the section. New member orientations and social events are offered most years.
- The RBMS Buddy Program matches first time conference attendees with an experienced RBMS member to guide the newcomer through their conference experience. Matches are available for ALA Annual and Midwinter conferences as well as the RBMS Preconference.
- The RBMS Mentoring Program is open to all members, old or new, who need help in becoming more involved with RBMS and in navigating the rare books and manuscripts profession.
