Transferring Skills

I’m not sure yet whether I want to work in a library, archive, or museum. Are the skills needed for one setting transferable to the others?

Certain skills are readily transferable. These include organizational, analytical, research, and communication skills. An aptitude for and facility with technology is highly useful in each of these occupations as well.

There are, however, certain skills that curators, archivists, conservators, and museum technicians need that rare book librarians won’t, and vice versa. Consult the online Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-2011 edition ( http://www.bls.gov/oco/ ) for the specific skills required for Librarians and Archivists, Curators, and Museum Technicians.
